About the Book

We weren’t just raised by our parents. We were raised by their fears, their silence, and the things they never talked about.

*Raised By Wounds* looks at how the things we learned to survive childhood can follow us into adulthood and affect how we love, trust, and treat the people around us.

Some of what you call your personality may actually be who you had to become to survive.

JK Hogan

JK Hogan was born and raised in Chicago, where early exposure to different people, stories, and realities shaped the way he listens and sees the world. He earned a B.A. in Rhetoric from DePaul University, studying how language, storytelling, and attention shape belief, identity, and human behavior.

At the same time, JK spent years serving as a youth pastor, working closely with people navigating faith, pain, doubt, and transition. That combination of formal education and lived, relational experience grounded his ability to listen deeply and speak honestly—without abstraction or distance.

In 2013, JK moved to Dallas, Texas, continuing a life shaped by travel, observation, and meaningful conversation across cultures and environments. His writing reflects that path: thoughtful, direct, and rooted in real experience rather than theory.
